You spent two weeks making great memories and celebrating the holidays with family, friends and colleagues. But who could resist all those home-made holiday goodies? As a result, you’re finding that you've put on a few pounds, or maybe even more than a few...and just when you have to go back to work!
Physical activity should be a resolution you adopt right away. For one thing, you'll find it easier to get back into work if you're physically active. You'll also be better equipped to manage back-to-work stress and have more energy to do your job.
Some simple forms of exercise
Physical activity combined with a healthier diet will help you shed those extra pounds. You've probably already found this to be true, so motivate yourself to get back into the physical activities you enjoy most. Even the simplest things will make a difference:
- Take the stairs to your office instead of the elevator
- Walk to work or to the store
- Play with the kids
- Get on the bus one stop later and get off one stop sooner
To lose weight, you'll have to work a little harder, like speed walking, doing aerobic dance or any other activity you enjoy. Don't forget that exercise classes generally start up again in mid-January if this is the kind of activity you've done before and that you enjoy. Otherwise, go outside and play with the kids.
A really good way to stay healthy
Remember that physical activity is a good way to stay healthy. It helps you relax, reduces certain risks of chronic illness, and even helps relieve existing health problems.
So what are you waiting for? Get out there and lose those extra pounds!
