Costs and eligibility

Want to make sure you're protected against the financial consequences of cancer? GetWell Insurance™ is affordable coverage that will set your mind at ease.

On the first diagnosis of cancer, GetWell Insurance provides a tax-free lump-sum benefit of:

  • $25,000 for insureds aged 54 or under
  • $12,500 for insureds aged 55 to 69

If you die while the contract is in force, all of the premiums you've paid will be refunded. Coverage ends at age 70.

Eligibility

GetWell Insurance is available to anyone up to age 59.

If you're a Canadian resident and can answer NO to each of the following questions you are eligible for GW Insurance:

  1. During your lifetime, have you ever suffered from cancer, a malignant tumour or intestinal and/or rectal polyps?
  2. Have you ever undergone chemotherapy or radiation therapy?
  3. Have you ever had a positive HIV or AIDS screening test, are you waiting for the results of such a test, or has it been recommended that you undergo this type of test?
  4. Males: did two or more members of your immediate family (father, mother, brothers, sisters) have colon cancer before age 60?
    Females: did two or more members of your immediate family (father, mother, brothers, sisters) have colon cancer or breast or ovarian cancer before age 60?

Exclusions and restrictions

The insurer will not pay a benefit for a diagnosis of any type of cancer or the onset of any signs or symptoms, a medical consultation or tests confirming a diagnosis of any type of cancer within the 6-month period prior to the effective date of an insured's coverage or within the 3-month period following this date.

The insurer will not pay a benefit for any of the following cancers:

  • Carcinoma in situ
  • Stage 1A malignant melanoma
  • Any non-melanoma skin cancer that has not metastasized
  • Stage A (T1a or T1b) prostate cancer
