Assistance services

Desjardins Insurance is committed to our insured clients' physical and emotional well-being. That's why we offer them complimentary assistance services based on their insurance coverage. The insured and their loved ones can use them whether they're healthy or going through a difficult time.

Second medical opinion

In the event of an illness, you'll have access to 4 services:

  • Specialist physicians can give you a second opinion on a diagnosis, treatment plan or surgical procedure for any medical condition—not just the ones covered under your contract.
  • You'll get help finding the top specialists in Canada for your medical situation, based on your requirements and geographic preferences.
  • You'll have access to a directory with the contact information for medical specialists and establishments outside Canada for treatment or surgery.
  • A nurse will act as your personal health navigator to help you with all your health-related questions, not only questions about critical illness or health problems. Unlimited access to the service is available for the insured adult[ Note 2 ], their immediate family (spouse and dependent children[ Note 3 ]) and their extended family (parents, parents-in-law, siblings and siblings-in-law).

Psychological assistance

In the event of a covered critical illness or loss of independence, as the insured person, you can get psychological assistance to help you through difficult times. You'll have access to specialists who will listen to you and help you better manage your personal problems and emotions.

This confidential service provides you with a maximum of 3 one-hour sessions per event while your claim is being opened.

The service is available by phone or video conference.

Autonomy assistance

If you experience a temporary or permanent loss of autonomy, you can receive non-medical home care services to help you and your caregivers maintain quality of life.

Domestic assistance[ Note 4 ]

Available to the insured and their caregivers.

Examples include light housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry, pet care, grocery shopping and other errands, and supervision of a person living alone.

Assistance with daily living[ Note 4 ]

Available to the insured.

Examples include hygiene and comfort care, help with morning and evening routines and mobility at home, supervision, transportation for medical appointments and companion services for outings.

Home assistance

Contact us to plan home renovations, get professional help quickly or obtain advice.[ Note 4 ] We also offer 24/7 emergency service.

Services we provide include referrals for contractors, tips for buying or maintaining appliances, and immediate assistance in the event of a major leak or damage.

Travel assistance

If you're planning a trip outside your home province, we're here for you.

Pre-departure

Get free and unlimited access to our help line, which provides reliable information and advice before a trip.

Nurses will answer health-related questions and qualified assistance coordinators will answer general questions.

During your trip

Receive assistance in emergency situations.

Medical assistance: Referrals to healthcare facilities, transportation arrangements for emergency care and more.

Non-medical assistance: Help with lost official documents or language barriers, arrangements for emergency return-trip travel and more.

  1. The assistance services are not a contractual obligation of Desjardins Insurance and may be withdrawn at any time without notice.
  2. In the case of an insured child, access to the service is unlimited for their immediate family (father, mother and siblings) and grandparents who are policyowners for the child's policy. [Back to note reference 2]
